Harbor Beach Children’s Savings Accounts

Help our students dream big with Children’s Savings Accounts (CSAs)

Strong goals build prosperous communities.

HBCS Storrs Family CSA Program is a children’s savings program brought to you by the Huron County Community Foundation, Frankenmuth Credit Union, Harbor Beach Community Schools, and funded by the Storrs Family Fund.

The CSA program provides kindergartners and first time HBCS students with Children’sSavings Accounts (CSAs), which are long-term savings accounts that will grow along with them. These accounts will help students to save money for career or college expenses after high school graduation. The CSA program also provides financial education to students, beginning with each year’s kindergartners.

Seriously! But don’t take our word for it, here are some things people have to say about the Harbor Beach CSA Program.

The CSA program has sparked conversations about the future in both my classroom and my home. It's truly inspiring to hear our young Pirates talking about the different college and training programs that they might use their money towards. The program is opening students' minds to the endless possibilities that they have as they grow in their knowledge, skills and educational journey.

Michelle Seidl, Parent and Educator

“At Frankenmuth Credit Union, we are proud to partner with Harbor Beach Community Schools and the Huron County Community Foundation to support the Storrs Family CSA program. By providing every student with a savings account, we’re helping the youth of Harbor Beach build a strong financial foundation for their future education. This program reflects our shared belief that every child deserves the opportunity to pursue their dreams beyond high school. It’s an honor to serve as the financial partner in this community initiative - investing in our students’ success today and for years to come.”

"I believe this is going to be good for all current and future students. This may be the only help some students may have for future educational needs. As a mother of four, this will help my own with their own needs."

WE NEED CSAs NOW MORE THAN EVER

  • 93% of Michigan parents say they want their children to pursue education after high school, but only 36% of them have any money saved for this. (MI CSA Network 2024 Survey)

  • Families with a CSA for seven years saved four times more of their own money than families without a CSA. (U.S. Government Accountability Office)

  • Low-income parents are 2.5 times more likely to expect their child to attend college when they have an educational savings account. (University of Kansas School of Social Welfare)

  • Each year, 3 million students drop out of college because of a financial emergency of $500 or less. Having a CSA could help avoid this. (Financial Health Network)
